Swing DancesThe fun & exciting all American Swing includes Jitterbug, Lindy, Jive, along with single, double, or triple time East Coast Swing. The fun spins & intricate patterns make swing a very versatile dance that crosses into several styles of music. Also very popular is the slower, sultry West Coast Swing. Ballroom DancesThese are considered classic dances for wedding receptions and social events because nothing equals the elegance of a couple gliding across the floor to the sounds of a beautiful Waltz, Foxtrot or Viennese Waltz. The seductive Tango is also considered a ballroom dance because there is no characteristic hip motion of the Latin dances. Country Western DancesPopular country western dances include: Two Step, Polka, Waltz, Cha-Cha, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing and Nightclub 2 Step. The Two Step is a must learn dance for anyone who enjoys country music. Latin DancesThe rich history of the Latin American cultures is reflected in numerous sensual & intoxicating dances such as: Salsa, Merengue, Cha-Cha, Rumba, Samba, Mambo, Bolero, & Paso Doble. The characteristic sexy hip movements & flashy turns & spins generally express the joy & abandon of tropical days & sultry romantic evenings. Wedding DancesWaltz & Foxtrot are traditional favorites at weddings. However, Salsa, Swing & Rumba are very popular at contemporary weddings. West Coast Swing is a very interpretive dance characterized by slinky hip movements & flashy spins. It is danced to a wide variety of music from rhythm-&-blues to top 40 hits. This dance permits a wide range of personal styles & creative expression.Argentine Tango is the original Tango, not to be confused with its Ballroom derivatives American & International Tango. It has an intimate, compact hold & features intricate footwork along with a sensuous, passionate character. This is the dance featured in the internationally renowned Tango Argentina and the recent hit Forever Tango.Bolero is a very slow relative of Rumba. It is swooping and graceful, making it a bit reminiscent of Smooth dances. Bolero is one of the most beautiful, graceful, romantic dances ever created, danced to very slow Rumba music. The idea of Bolero is a little like a game of yes, no... come here, go away... I love you, I love you not.Cha-Cha is a fast, spicy, flirtatious dance. This famous Latin dance with its sexy hip movements is often danced to upbeat top 40 hits such as Santana's Smooth, Pink's Get This Party Started and Christina Aquilera's Lady Marmalade. Cha-Cha is a very versatile social dance for weddings, Salsa clubs, Country Western clubs, ballroom events & more.East Coast Swing is the most common Swing dance. It is characterized by an up-tempo, carefree, relaxed style that is easily adaptable to a wide range of tempos from moderately slow to very fast music. Often known as the Jitterbug, the Swing with its fun spins & intricate patterns is a very versatile dance going equally well with Big Band as Glenn Miller's In the Mood, rock-&-roll as Elvis Presley's Jailhouse Rock, many Motown songs, top 40 hits & all time favorite Rock Around The Clock.Foxtrot is a great social dance: its fun, not hard to learn, & easy to lead & follow. It is a great dance for beginners. Traditionally danced to Big Band music, it is smooth & sexy. The Foxtrot originated in 1914 in New York City by Harry Fox. It is one of the most versatile of all the ballroom dancers as it can be danced to a wide variety of music with varying tempos. From classic Foxtrot songs like Frank Sinatra's The Way You Look Tonight or Nat & Natalie Cole's romantic Unforgettable. Foxtrot shares many of the same steps with the Waltz & these two are the classic dances for wedding receptions & social events. Wedding couples usually choose one or the other as their first dance together.Hip Hop is one of the newest forms of club dance. Hip-hop originated in the 1970s in the south Bronx section of New York City - the culture from which rap emerged. Hip Hop dancing is about expressing the beat & syncopating the music to the movement of your body. Although it's not a partner dance, Hip Hop builds coordination, creativity & musicality.Hustle is today's version of Disco Dancing. It's fast & rotary. Born in the discos of the 1970's, Hustle is fast-moving with lots of spins. It is danced to disco, funk or rock & roll music with a pulsing beat.Mambo is similar to Salsa (very fast!). Mambo became popular in the 40's as Americans became fascinated with the exciting rhythms emanating from the Latin countries. As with most Latin dances, the hip-movements are the key to looking authentic.Merengue is a Ballroom as well as a club dance that is done to really fast Latin music & is sometimes called the sister dance to Salsa. Merengue originated in the Caribbean around the 1850's growing in worldwide popularity due in part to its simplicity. It consists of very simple steps organized into sets of 8 & features a characteristic hip swing & graceful arm flourishes. It is a very easy dance for beginners, probably the easiest dance you will ever learn.Night Club Two Step is an up-tempo romantic slow dance that combines the characteristics of several dances. It is danced to popular Top 40 songs such as Lady in Red & On the Wings of Love.Paso Doble has its roots in Flamenco & Matador movements. The Spanish March or One Step makes an especially good exhibition routine as the man styles his body movements to look like a bullfighter's & leads the lady as his cape.Polka is a high energy country western dance moving counter clockwise around the floor. Characterized by a bouncy triple step, Polka has intricate patterns with lots of spins & turns.Rumba is the simplest rhythm dance & is the dance from which most of the other Rhythm dances were derived. Many of the movements & actions of Rumba seem to have an erotic meaning with this slow, romantic Latin dance that emphasizes the hips to tell a tale of love and is known as the dance of love. The slow & rhythmic Rumba was introduced in this country in the 1920's & 30's. It is danced in one spot & is characterized by sexy hip motion, turns, breaks & rolls.Salsa is the rage! Advertisers have found this hot Latin dance sells as evidenced by recent commercials. Salsa, with its sexy hip movements & flashy turns & spins, is one of the most sensual, energetic dances you will learn.Samba is super sexy with a pulsing, thundering beat & fluid hip action that is danced to lively upbeat music. American Samba features simpler figures than International Samba, but is danced to the same music & uses the same techniques. Samba is a Latin dance with its origins in Brazilian carnival dances.Single-time Swing is directly derived from East Coast Swing. This simpler basic makes Single-time Swing easy to dance to the very fast music you are likely to encounter at parties or in clubs.Swing is fun, relaxed & one of the most entertaining dances. There are a many varieties that are extremely different in music, tempo and character. All of the Swings are can be done to Big Band music & several styles have evolved in response to Jazz, Blues, Pop, Rock & more.Tango is passionate, with dramatic poses. Its story is of a love affair that is sometimes amorous, sometimes angry, but always intense!Viennese Waltz is about twice the speed of Waltz, & features simple footwork with lots of twirls & arm expression. Viennese Waltz is the dance most often seen in movies depicting Ballroom Dancing.Waltz is the traditional Wedding Dance. The character is elegant, regal, graceful, & has a lovely swooping rise & fall. It originated in the suburbs of Vienna & the Alpine region of Austria; and, by the 17th Century, waltz was danced in the Ballrooms of the Hapsburg Court in Germany.
